Certified Pies, the first and only black-owned pizza business in Little Rock, opened its physical location in West Little Rock on Sep 23 after operating out of a ghost kitchen over the past couple years..

  • Pizza pies: Their unique menu features flavor combinations that honor the music they love, like the Smooth Operator with ranch sauce and five cheese blend topped with chicken and bacon crumble.

  • Flying high: Their wing game is just as strong, thanks to a collaboration with local business Truth Sauce, and other local favorites like Sarge's Famous Pickles and KB's Love By the Pound will be featured in the pizzeria.

Arkansas Men's Basketball has released its 2023-24 season schedule.

  • On the docket: Highlights include Duke visiting Fayetteville on Nov. 29 for the SEC/ACC Challenge and a charity exhibition game at home against Purdue on Oct. 28.

  • Catch the action: Arkansas can be seen on the ESPN family of networks 16 times; the SEC Network eight times; and CBS for its game against Kentucky.

Six Bridges Book Festival Showcasing Prizewinning Authors in Little Rock

Central Arkansas is abuzz as the 2023 Six Bridges Book Festival has kicked off. With a slew of authors from across the world, Pulitzer Prize winners, and even a movie star, the festival has brought some of the best literature to the Little Rock area.

  • Variety show: Hosted by the Central Arkansas Library System, there are over 50 different programs scattered throughout the week.

  • Starry line-up: The festival includes Maureen Corrigan (book critic of NPR's "Fresh Air") at the Ron Robinson theater in a discussion about banned books and features Christian Cooper ("Better Living Through Birding"), and David Grann ("Killers of the Flower Moon").

UAMS Opens State's First Proton Therapy Center in Little Rock

UAMS opened its first-of-its-kind Proton Center of Arkansas on Wednesday, to provide the most advanced cancer radiation treatment available to both children and adults.

  • Cutting-edge technology: The Proton Center is the 43rd in the US and uses proton radiation therapy to target tumors with greater precision and less damage to healthy organs and tissues.

  • Partners in health: UAMS built the center in partnership with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Baptist Health and Proton International, offering Arkansans the most advanced cancer radiation treatment in the world, without needing to leave the state.

AMR Architects recently released renderings for the upcoming $36 million Artspace Windgate Campus in Little Rock's East End, which is being made possible through a strategic effort from the Windgate Foundation in support of the local arts.

  • Making a statement: The mixed-use development is set to feature affordable housing, commercial space, outdoor courtyards, public art components, and will even become the future home of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

  • Early 2024: Construction is expected to begin early 2024 with the project opening in 2025.
