An Arkansas Steelmaking Bootcamp is set to open its doors thanks to a $1.2m grant from the Office of Skills Development.

  • Steel ahead: This boot camp is intended to provide entry-level knowledge and meet the increasing demand for steelmakers in the region.

  • Power through: Individuals who complete the two-week program will be granted multiple certifications, including OSHA-10 General Industry Certification, a first aid/CPR certification, and a certificate of program completion.

UAMS Creates Opportunities for Local Artists Through Artist-in-Residence Program

The Orthopaedic & Spine Hospital at UAMS has implemented an artist-in-residence program, giving patients and loved ones a creative distraction to calm their nerves while providing new opportunities for local artists.

  • Creative environment: Shelley Gentry, a local artist, was the first to participate in the program and is now joined by UAMS medical student Alexa Pearce, who has created a colorful 40-foot mural on the building's first floor.

  • Inspiring art: Visitors can enjoy Gentry's contemporary realism style, featuring sparkling glass objects, swirling textures and more, while Pearce's abstract mural offers the hospital's motto: Where Motion Lives and Service Leads.
